THE EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL TYPES OF PERFORMERS FROM POETS, COMEDIANS, DANCERS, DJS AND MUSICIANS. ARTISTS WISHING TO PERFORM ARE ENCOURAGED TO CONTACT THE CENTER FOR THE ARTS WELL IN ADVANCE AS SPOTS ARE AWARDED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS. JUNE 25: THE WESTERN HERITAGE MUSEUM AND LEA COUNTY COWBOY HALL OF FAME IS HOSTING A CLASSIC FILM SERIES. SUNDAY JUNE 25 CATCH THE 2007 MOVIE “JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB” STARRING EMILY BLUNT AND JIMMY SMITS. THE MOVIES ARE SHOWN ON SUNDAYS AT 2 PM AND ARE FREE TO ATTEND. POPCORN AND DRINKS WILL BE AVAILABLE. JUNE 30: THE LEA COUNTY COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS WILL HOST ITS ANNUAL VISUAL/PERFORMING SUM­MER ART CAMPS IN HOBBS. THE CAMPS WILL TAKE PLACE MAY 30 THROUGH JUNE 30. STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE THE OPPOR­TUNITY TO CHOOSE FROM CLASSES, INCLUDING PAINT­ING, CARTOONING (DRAWING), SCULPTURE, HIP HOP DANCE AND FILM ANIMATION. ALL CLASSES ARE $10 PER CLASS PER DAY. ​JUNE 30: THE NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE ARE REMINDING MOTORISTS THAT THEY WILL BE OUT AND ABOUT IN JUNE. THEY WILL BE CONDUCTING CHECKPOINTS, SATURATION PATROLS AND REGISTRATION, INSURANCE AND DRIVERS’ LICENSE CHECKPOINTS. STATE AUTHORITIES ARE MAKING PEOPLE AWARE OF THIS IN AN EFFORT TO REDUCE ALCOHOL RELATED FATALITIES. THE CHECKPOINTS ALSO HELP CHANGE SOCIETY’S ATTITUDE ABOUT DRINKING AND DRIVING. DRIVE SAFELY THIS SUMMER! 


JULY 4: THE CITY OF HOBBS FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION WILL BE FROM 4-10 PM AT HARRY MCADAMS PARK. THIS YEAR’S EVENT FEATURES A GRASS VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT, DIAPER DERBY, FOOD AND DRINK VENDORS, THE MOVIES UNDER THE STARS WITH “LITTLE RASCALS,” AND A FIREWORKS DISPLAY AT 9:30 P.M. AUGUST 5: THE LEA COUNTY COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS WILL PRESENT ITS 3RD ANNUAL NEW MEDIA NEW MEXICO EXHIBITION ON SATURDAY, JUNE 10 FROM 5-7PM AT THE CENTER FOR THE ARTS. THE EXHIBITION WILL FEATURE ANIMATED PROJECTION INSTALLATIONS, ONE CHANNEL VIDEOS AND 3D INSTALLATIONS FROM VARIOUS NEW MEDIA ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE STATE AND COUNTRY. THE OPENING RECEPTION WILL ALSO FEATURE A FREE CONCERT BY ARNOLD CARDON AND THE BOSQUE KINGS. LIGHT REFRESHMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED. NOVEMBER 5: THE WESTERN HERITAGE MUSEUM AND LEA COUNTY COWBOY HALL OF FAME PRESENTS “THE BEAUTY IN ENERGY” AN OIL AND GAS FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION. THIS EXHIBIT WILL FEATURE A NUMBER OF LARGE-SCALE PHOTOGRAPHS ON DIFFERENT MEDIUMS CAPTURING THE ARTISTRY OF AN OILFIELD LANDSCAPE, THE CHOREOGRAPHY OF WORKERS IN MOTION. THE EXHIBITION WILL BE ON DISPLAY FROM JUNE 23 THROUGH NOVEMBER 5 TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY 10AM TO 5PM AND SUNDAY 1PM TO 5PM.
